Frequently asked questions

What is OutcomeStar?

A family platform that turns twelve years of grades, races, awards, and leadership into one structured, citable record — organized into five pillars that mirror how admissions and scholarship committees actually evaluate students.

Who is it for?

Parents building a college, scholarship, or recruiting record for a student of any age — from first milestones to senior-year applications.

Why do I need a card to sign up?

Every account is verified by a parent card payment. For children under 13, a card charge is the FTC-recognized method of verified parental consent under COPPA. On the free plan (ages 0–10) this is a one-time $3 age verification of the student's birth certificate, valid 10 years; otherwise your membership or storage payment serves as the verification. Your card is held securely by Stripe — we never see the number.

What does it cost?

Membership is per student, billed annually by age: ages 0–10 free (with the one-time $3 age verification) · 11–13 $119.99/yr · 14–16 $249.99/yr · 17–18 $399.99/yr · 19+ alumni archive $12.99/yr. Every plan includes the complete record platform. Storage for photos, video, and documents is separate: 1 GB free, Keepsake 10 GB $29/yr, Portfolio 50 GB $79/yr, Archive 100 GB $149/yr.

What does the Free plan include?

The complete structured record — every pillar, form, benchmark, report, and the student website — with 1 GB of file storage. Paid plans only add storage for photos, video, and documents.

Who owns the data?

You do. Your structured record is never deleted, and you can generate a report containing all stored data, free at any time. If a storage plan lapses, files are removed after 90 days — the record itself remains permanently.

What appears on the public student site?

Nothing you don’t choose. Everything is private by default; each field has a “show on site” switch. First name only appears publicly; addresses, contact details, birth dates, and other legally protected fields can never be shown.

How is my child’s data protected?

COPPA and FERPA compliance is designed in, not bolted on: verified parental consent, encrypted personal data, law-locked privacy fields that shift automatically with age, and family-isolated data — no family can see another’s records.

Can I cancel?

Anytime. Annual plans stop at renewal; your record stays, and a report containing all stored data is free at any time.

What if my school gave me a code?

Enter it on the signup page — enrollment codes connect your family to a school pilot cohort. Everything else works identically.
